LAWRENCE OF ARABIA (Columbia/TriStar Home Video), the 1962 fact-based epic about T.E. Lawrence, the Englishman who championed the Arab cause prior to WWI, comes to DVD in a deluxe two-disc set. David Lean directed Peter O’Toole in the title role; Omar Sharif also stars. Aspect ratio is 2.2:1; sound formats are English Dolby Digital 5.1, English 2.0 Surround, French, Spanish and Portuguese, with English, Spanish, French, Chinese, Korean, Portuguese and Thai subtitles. Extras include a making-of documentary, four original featurettes, a conversation with Steven Spielberg, newsreel footage, ad campaigns, the theatrical trailer, footage of the New York premiere, talent files and DVD-ROM features.

THE LEGEND OF BAGGER VANCE (DreamWorks), released theatrically last year, is director Robert Redford’s visually handsome but slow period piece about a depressed WWI hero (Matt Damon) seeking to redeem himself through a major golf match. Will Smith and Charlize Theron also star. Aspect ratio is 1.85:1; sound formats are English DTS and English Dolby Digital 5.1, with English subtitles. Extras include a making-of featurette and the theatrical trailer.

THE MILLION DOLLAR HOTEL (Sterling Home Entertainment), released theatrically last year, is a surreal mystery directed by Wim Wenders, starring Mel Gibson, Jeremy Davies and Milla Jovovich. Aspect ratio is widescreen; sound format is Dolby Digital (no further information available).

102 DALMATIANS (Walt Disney Home Video), released theatrically last year, is a sequel/near-remake of the live-action version of Dodie Smith’s classic book about kidnapped puppies. The new movie has a dog-loving parrot (voice of Eric Idle) interpreting the nonspeaking dogs’ thoughts. Glenn Close (reprising her villainous fashionmonger Cruella DeVille), Gerard Depardieu, Ioan Gruffudd and Alice Evans are the human stars under Kevin Lima’s direction. Aspect ratio is 1.85:1; sound formats are English DTS and English Dolby Digital 5.1, THX certified, with English subtitles. Extras include an audio commentary track by director Lima and animal coordinator Gary Gero, deleted scenes, three making-of featurettes, music video-style puppy auditions, a featurette on the care and feeding of Dalmatians narrated by the parrot character and interactive features.
