Quantity and quality are two very different things, and while each are important on Blu-ray release day, I’d rather see a few quality flicks hit the shelves every Tuesday than endless supplies of bad movies with low quality transfers. This is one of those weeks. There’s not much out, but it’s all pretty good.
Pirate Radio
‘The Boat That Rocked’ was the original name for this movie, and it does just that. It’s funny and light-hearted without being without content. The cast of ‘Pirate Radio’ is impeccable. Kenneth Branagh, Bill Nighy and Philip Seymour Hoffman are highly acclaimed actors and they do their job wonderfully. Fans of Shaun of the Dead will also recognize Nick Frost as Dave. It’s a movie that’s definitely worth picking up.
Apollo 13
It’s been fifteen years since the original release of Apollo 13 which means a new special edition DVD, and even better, a Blu-ray disc. This is a film that could really benefit from a high definition transfer. It’s a lot easier to marvel at the wonders of space when it’s presented in crystal clear high definition.
