LG Debuts Its New HD DVD/Blu-ray Combo Player Print E-mail
Thursday, 08 February 2007
Are you tired of racking your brain over which next generation, high-resolution disc format to choose, Blu-ray or HD DVD? Well, now you can breath easier as LG has finally provided us with a solution. LG, perhaps better known for their appliances and plasmas, has officially debuted and released their combo HD DVD and Blu-ray next generation disc player, the BH100. After reports circulated that the player was being nixed in 2006, LG debuted the player at the 2007 CES tradeshow in Las Vegas. The LG BH100 player officially hit retail stores on February 4, 2007. The initial reaction to the performance of this combo player is laudable. With a list price of $1,199 on Bestbuy.com, the BH100 finally gives consumers the ability to play HD DVD and Blu-ray software titles, along with standard DVD titles, all in one player.

The BH100 sports all the standard connections needed to fully optimize your system with these next generation formats. It comes complete with HDMI (1.2), Composite and Component Video outputs, a multi-channel 5.1 output, stereo audio output, and of course both Digital Coaxial and Digital Optical outputs for transmission of the latest Dolby and DTS encoding formats.

Like the Toshiba HD-XA2 and the Sony BDP-S1 Blu-ray players, LG’s combo player supports output of 1080p via HDMI. One possible downside to the audio playback of the LG player however may be the fact that the Digital/Analog Converter onboard processor ranks in at 96kHz/24-bit. This spec is down from the other Blu-ray and HD DVD players, which have an onboard processor of 192kHz/24-bit. How does this impact the audio quality? Stay tuned for an AVRev.com review.
