Sony Announces the SCD-XE800 SACD Player for Japan Print E-mail
Thursday, 15 July 2010
ImageThere's no word of an international release yet, but it's great to see that the SACD format is still being supported by companies like Sony.  The latest player from the company is marketed as more of an entry level device. Sony's SCD-XE800 can play back both traditional CDs and SACDs with a frequency range from 2Hz up to 100kHz, a total harmonic distortion of less than 0.0035 percent and a dynamic range of over 100dB.  It's also sporting what Sony calls Super Audio D/A converters, but there's not much in the way of details on the Japanese press page.

You'll have the choice between three audio outputs.  You can go through the stereo analog outs, or digitally with either coax or optical cables. The SCD-XE800 is slated for an August release and will sell for 36,000 Yen, which equates to around $410 US.
