McIntosh Makes Big Leaps in Home Theater Entertainment at CES Print E-mail
Thursday, 07 January 2010
ImageMcIntosh introduces three new products at CES that jump out.  First, the company is previewing the MX150, which is a 12-channel Audio/Video Preamplifier.  No specifics are provided as to the usage of the 12 channels.  However, it is probable that 12 channels allows for two 5.1 systems or a combine of surround and stereo.
The preamplifier has HDMI 1.3 capabilities, including decoding of the Dolby and DTS lossless audio codecs.  The system has balanced audio inputs as well as digital coaxial and toslink inputs.  The preamplifier uses AES/EBU balanced outputs.  The MX150 has a two-zone function and also comes with built-in room correction.  The unit retails for $12,000

Another product being released by McIntosh is the MEN220, a two-channel room correction system.  The system comes with digital room correction programs, a custom EQ and a 2-way crossover adjustment component.  The unit comes with a remote control and RS-232 control.

The RoomPerfect digital suite automatically creates a model of the listening and makes adjustments to remedy the peaks and dips in the frequency spectrum.  The Custom EQ allows the user to modify the listening room to his or her tastes.  The 2-Way Crossover functions as a bi-amping feature.  This system retails for $4,500.

The final product by McIntosh is their first universal Blu-ray disc player, the MVP881 BR.  This is a Profile 2.0 Blu-ray player with support for SACD and DVD-Audio.  The unit has a memory card reader and RS-232 connection.  The unit uses 32-bit, 192kHz DACs and has a multi-channel analog output.  Surprisingly the unit is going to be released at a price of $8,000.
