Revenge - The Complete First Season (2012) “Revenge” was perhaps my favorite new show of last season.  It probably was my favorite my show of any last season.  I certainly look forward to the second season, which is more than I can say for most shows.  However, given the amount of drama that arrived in the first season, I am unsure whether the writers can sustain the interesting dynamics. “Revenge” is tale of more than just the titular word definition.  It has intrigue and mystery.  There is suspense, which is likely what kept of watching week after week.  The cliffhangers of each episode were just enough to get you excited for the next week but not pissed off about the wait. Emily VanCamp was one of my favorite actresses years ago during “Everwood.”  Sadly she didn’t have much going for her after that.  “Revenge” is her comeback to television.  ...

Teen Wolf - The Complete First Season (2011) “Teen Wolf” was a mere movie cult phenomenon in the 80s with an animated series that followed, so it was a bit of a surprise when a TV series arose in the spring last year.  Thankfully, the series doesn’t actually relate to the original film in, well, any single way.  Okay, well the first name of the lead character is still Scott and his best friend is still named Stiles, but other than that the show shares no similarities. Thankfully the female lead character’s name was changed from Boof.  All joking aside, “Teen Wolf” the series has potential.  The first season, comprised of 12 episodes didn’t get hailed as a great new series but it wasn’t as critically panned as most thought it would be.  The show struggles a bit here and there with some of the storylines and character development.  ...

Private Practice - The Complete Fourth Season (2011) As you no doubt know, “Private Practice” is the offspring of “Grey’s Anatomy.”  Addison Montgomery split from Derek and joined her best friend in Santa Monica.  But hey, it wouldn’t be a melo-drama if everything were all peachy.  And these are certainly dramatic within this practice. This show seems to be best known for its dramatic season finales, practically upstaging the hospital shooting of “Grey’s Anatomy.”  In the season two finale they left us with Violet laying on the floor, her baby cut out of her.  Then in season three we find Maya and Dell in a car accident and an unexpected death.  Then in season four, we are left with the possible disbanding of the Oceanside Wellness Group. As the fourth season opens we find the practice to be in mourning of Dell’s death.  But once the season gets going it ...

Grey's Anatomy - The Complete Seventh Season (2011) As “Grey’s Anatomy” moves into its eighth season starting next Thursday, let’s take a look back at the previous season.  Season six had brought us a new group of residents from Mercy West, a new love for Callie, and some shocking moments.  So, what is left for season seven?  Well, plenty apparently. The writers surprisingly found new, or at least well-conceived twists for the characters are seven years.  The seventh season of this medical melo-drama doesn’t exactly have us on pins and needles, but there are some emotionally charged episodes.  Few can forget the musical episode following Callie and Arizona’s car accident.  The triumph and sadness that occurs throughout the season will pull at the heartstrings. That is not to say the entire season flows from beginning to end.  There are several episodes, perhaps a couple more than usual that act more ...

Private Practice - The Complete Third Season (2010) With the success of “Grey’s Anatomy” it was inevitable that it would result in a spinoff series.  “Private Practice” fit the bill and the lucky girl chosen to move over to the new show is Kate Walsh as Dr. Montgomery.  She starred in “Grey’s” for a while as Derek Shepherd’s ex-wife who starts working at Seattle Grace as head OBGYN. The show, now going into its fourth season, has had its ups and downs.  In season one it tried to find its foothold, but was still solid.  Season two went relatively downhill, except for a cliffhanger like no other in the season finale.  I’m happy to report that season three demonstrates some of the true power that the show holds. Dr. Montgomery has purchased the practice but has invited everyone to own a share.  Naomi has left the practice to head up ...
