Wizards of Waverly Place: The Movie (Extended Edition) (2009) “Wizards of Waverly Place” is one of Disney’s most successful television programs in the past decade.  The shelf of these shows is relatively short, corresponding with the generation currently in the age bracket.  There was nothing wrong with “Lizzie McGuire” and yet that show was canceled after only two seasons and 65 episodes.  That being said, “Wizards of Waverly Place” has already gone its two seasons and is in the midst of its third.  The show has won several awards, which is probably what is keeping it alive. The success of the program has led to a made-for-TV movie starring the whole of the original cast plus a couple newcomers. In the film, the Russo family is preparing for a trip to the Caribbean, one of the most magical places on the planet.  However, ma and pa Russo are heading there to ...

World's Greatest Dad (2009) “World’s Greatest Dad” is another one of the hyped movies on the premium movie channels.  While I don’t believed it lived up to the hype, it is certainly an original film presentation.  With Robin Williams as the lead star, one would expect this to be a ridiculously funny movie.  However, much to the contrary, it is a rather dark and disturbing movie with a comical undertone. Robin Williams is a high school English teach by day and a wannabe, unpublished writer by night.  He lives with his teenage son, who is probably the biggest pervert and jerk in the entire world.  I don’t find this behavior highly realistic, but just go with it. Now, I debated on whether or not to disclose this fact, but the second and third acts of the film are all based on it so I have no ...

Proposal, The (Deluxe DVD Edition) How many romantic comedies do you think are out there?  Probably too many.  So what makes “The Proposal” different from all the others?  Well, in all honesty, not much.  Still, “The Proposal” is more entertaining than I would have expected.  I enjoyed the chemistry between Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds, but the film suffers from too many of the pitfalls of romantic comedies. “The Proposal” ultimate downfall is that the ending is unresolved, at least for my tastes.  The ending is the same as every romantic comedy.  It ends with the audience wanting to know what transpires next.  We already knew from the beginning that they are going to end up together, but what happens to their jobs and lives after that.  That, to me is more interesting than the journey to how they end up together. The promos for the DVD ...

X-Men: The Animated Series - Volumes 3 and 4 Buena Vista is back with "X-Men" animated episodes in Volumes 3 and 4.  I can't tell you all how thankful I am that you supported the initially released two volumes.  That helped to ensure the release of these next two volumes.  So, please continue to support these volumes so we can get the final remaining DVD release to complete the series. "X-Men" is noted as being one of the first animated cartoons to have a continuing storyline from episode to episode.  However, these began to drop a about season three.  Therefore these two volumes of "X-Men" contain more one-off episodes.  Nevertheless, these episodes are terrific.  It is hard to find fault in the entire series, as it is so entertaining.  The characters are emotionally deep for a cartoon.  The only real issue is that the episodes become more loosely based on ...

Princess Protection Program (Royal B.F.F. Extended Edition) (2009) Disney has been hyping "Princess Protection Program" for quite some time.  If you ever tune into the Disney channel every other promotion is for this film.  I even caught promotions for the made-for-TV on the A&E and HGTV channels.  The promotions actually worked as I became at least semi-interested in seeing the film.  I have been a fan of Disney Channel Original movies for quite some time.  The Halloweentown series, "Cadet Kelly" and "Right On Track" are just a few of my favorites.  Unfortunately, "Princess Protection Program" doesn't quite live up to the Disney Channel Original standard. The film is entirely predictable.  This is usually to be expected of a Disney film as to keep it in the reach of children.  However, normally there is something in the Disney films that can keep adults interested.  This film however is purely for ...
