Denon’s DVD lineup has been retooled with two new players – the universal DVD-1920 ($369) and budget-level DVD-1720 ($149). The DVD-1920 has a good number of features for its price point, it supports SACD and DVD-Audio playback and also uses a Faroudja FLI2301 DCDi chipset for image enhancement. The universal player’s HDMI 1.1 interface also ensures that any digital video signal is fed directly to the display without any loss in quality. The DVD-1720 shares some of the features of the DVD-1920 like a 10-bit, 54Mhz video D/A converter and Burr Brown Audio digital-to-analog converters. Both models have similar Picture Mode adjustments including 4:3 aspect ratio squeeze and zoom for 480p output, and are capable of playing Windows Media Audio. Like all Denon universal players they are also compatible with Kodak and Fuji Picture CDs since they have JPEG photo viewers. The original 1970 Woodstock movie included part of Hendrix’s performance in the festival and 1994’s release of the performance ran for less than an hour. It took over thirty years but now fans can finally enjoy his entire set, complete with a new 5.1 Surround Sound track on DVD. “Jimi Hendrix: Live at Woodstock [The Deluxe Edition]” is scheduled to be released September 13, 2005 by Experience Hendrix LLC and Universal Music DVD Video.

Classé has added a DVD player to its Delta Series of audio-video components. The CDP-300 is compatible with a number of formats, it plays standard DVDs and CDs as well as DVD-Audio, DualDisc, discs encoded with MP3, WMA or AAC audio, Video-CD, S-VCD and JPEG picture discs. Classé says the CDP-300 fits in stylistically with the rest of the Delta series, pointing out it is the first DVD player to offer touchscreen control and video preview on the front panel, allowing users to listen to music without having any projector-noise distractions.

In celebration of the launch of the T.Rex Born to Boogie DVD, Sanctuary Records held a premiere at the Curzon Mayfair Cinema in London, on April 26th, featuring DTS 96/24 high-resolution audio playback. The special two-disc release consists of Ringo Starr's 1972 film Born to Boogie, the only two full concerts ever recorded with T.Rex, and a wealth of extra material.
