The impressive Atmos sound technology from Dolby has just been attached to another major firm – 'Star Trek Into Darkness.'   The followup to the incredible J.J. Abrams reboot of the Star Trek franchise will take advantage of everything Atmos has to offer, immersing audiences in sound and creating pinpoint audio locations.  In other words, when the Klingon Bird of Prey passes overhead, you're going to want to duck.

It seems like every year when CES rolls around we're promised that this will finally be the year that OLED will come to consumers.  And technically it has, in the form of incredibly small TV sets and even smaller Smartphone panels.  Reasonably sized and priced OELD TVs are still something we're waiting on, but according to the DisplaySearch research firm, we won't be waiting too much longer.  As it turns out, we have UHDTVs to thank.

Being an audiophile or a home theater buff is hard if you're living too far outside of a major city.  It's simply a matter of availability – there aren't specialty retailers around to suit your needs.  Of course, with brick-and-mortar stores closing down as much as they are, even city-dwellers are having a hard time getting their goods.  The folks at PS Audio are aware of the problem and are now offering their products online.

There's a lot of news going on in the world of online video streaming, and it all starts with Hulu, which has been on a steady decline recently.  In fact, this is the first month that Hulu has dropped out of the Top 10 list of streaming sites.   What's particularly interesting about this is that Hulu is still number three when it comes to the amount of ads shown.  While most sites average around 10 ads per viewer, Hulu sits at 51.  And they wonder why people aren't watching.

Ultra High Definition TVs are just plain exciting.  Sure they cost as much as a decent sub-compact car, there's no native 4K source material for them unless you have a 4K camera, and since the sets are new to the market early adopters are signing up for an experience full of the kinds of issues that get ironed out in later iterations.  That doesn't mean the 84LM9600 is anything less than awesome.

If you've got the cash to spare, you can get your hands on an absolute monster of a set, as the 84 inch UHD TV from LG has finally hit the US with an MSRP of $19999.99.  There's plenty of interesting things packed into this TV, but the selling point is, obviously, the 3840 x 2160 resolution.  And don't worry, there's an upscaling engine included so you don't have to try and dig up 4K content quite yet.
