According to the consulting firm Futuresource, Blu-ray player sales are ahead of where DVD player sales were at the same point in the lifecycle.   Blu-ray has existed for consumer purchase for around four years now, and despite initially slow sales and an unfortunate economic condition, the format is doing well.  Jim Bottoms, managing director of Futuresource, says that the lead Blu-ray have is impressive, but that it will never match the overall acceptance of DVD.

Sitting at comfortable 56” and a resolution of 3840 x 2160, Sony’s TRIMASTER seems to have everything going for it, aside from a decent name. Aimed at a professional audience, the TRIMASTER looks to steop up the game when it comes to three points: exact color, accurate image, and reliability.  Sony hopes to achieve these goals by utilizing a trio of technologies such as 10 bit drivers, a 12 bit display engine and RGB LED backlighting.

Today begins the CEATEC exhibition in Japan, but Toshiba couldn’t wait for what may be the biggest unveiling of the show.  Hotly anticipated and surrounded by rumors and speculation, the Cell REGZA 55X1 has finally been officially shown.  And yes, it’s impressive. The Cell REGZA boasts a 3TB hard drive and has the capability to display and record up to eight programs simultaneously.

A pair of S-Series power amps, the S-275 and S-150M, has been introduced by Krell.  These amps were designed with one goal in mind: to bring high end performance to users in a very small package.  Krell’s S-275 is, not surprisingly, a 275 watt stereo amplifier.  Via a switch on the back, the S-275 is able to be placed into mono mode where it boasts a 550 watt output.  With a half sized footprint, the S-275 is able to be placed side by side with another amplifier.

Nontraditional subwoofers seem to be increasingly popular with high end consumer electronics manufacturers and Paradigm is no exception.  Their new SUB 2 and SUB 1 subwoofers use a total of six drivers that, rather than simply pushing sound in one direction, cause sound to emanate from three different points.

Last month we saw a great deal of announcements regarding upcoming wireless televisions.  Taking a signal from a base unit, these displays were able to display a huge variety of content without any wires connecting the source and the screen.  They weren’t completely wireless of course, but Sony hopes to change that.  Over the weekend, Sony announced a new technology which is currently dubbed the “Wireless Power Supply System”.
