Soundbars are gaining popularity in the home theater market, especially for people with limited spaces such as a small apartment, or for rooms where full speaker setups just aren’t practical.  Polk’s new Wireless Surround F/X is similar, but entirely different.  It’s aimed at people who may already have a decent front speaker setup, but who are neglecting the rear.

Watching movies at home can be compared to living arrangements.  DVD and Blu-ray ownership is like home ownership.  It’s not cheap, but once you own it, it’s yours.  In store rentals take up the role of the extended stay hotel.   They’ve got a mini kitchen and all, but you leave eventually.  Those one night stays on a road trip would be represented by RedBox.  Of course, this model completely misses that seedy motel that charges hourly rates and doesn’t ask questions.

We’ve been hearing about Toshiba’s Cell TV for a long time now, though the actual details have been, for the most part, speculative.  Toshiba representatives have spent a lot of time talking about what they’d like the Cell Regza to do, but we’ve now got official details on the actual product that will be released in Japan later this week.

So you’ve got a nice Yamaha receiver with some solid networking capabilities.  It sounds great, it can do everything you need it to do, and you’re ready to show it off.  You invite some people over, have some dinner and then sit down in front of your impressive home theater only to find that you’ve lost the remote to your receiver.

Subwoofers are an odd and surprisingly hard piece of gear for the average consumer to wrap their heads around.  Maybe some people just don’t know what they do or they don’t think they’re worth the effort. Maybe subs have a bad rap from the absolutely awful rattling and overabundant bass coming from the backs of cars.  Whatever the reason, Polk wants to change some minds.

The much expected deal between Comcast and General Electric has finally been announced as official.  Cable provider Comcast will be buying fifty-one percent of shares in NBC Universal, while GE will – after picking up all shares owned by Vivendi – own forty-nine percent of the company. While GE will own nearly half of NBC Universal, all management will be done by Comcast. While GE and Comcast are singing the praises of the new arrangement, others are less than excited.

The Optoma HD66 is a 3D ready projector that's priced at a very comfortable $699. It's not a powerhouse, but it's one of the cheapest ways to get a high definition 3D picture in the house. Optoma's 3D projector is a strong offering for those looking to try out the new 3D offerings, but it does present a few limitations that, while acceptable for the price, are pretty disappointing.
