The Ultio Pro media player from Mvix is an impressive playback solution.  It can handle just about any video file you can think of, a substantial range of audio files, and even sports a torrent service. But the Ultio Pro isn’t for everyone, in that it doesn’t have access to some of the basic internet services that other players have.  You can still get videos from Netflix and Hulu, but you’ll have to go through Tversity or PlayOn to get there.

The soundbar is a solid concept.  If you’re in a room that just doesn’t need a whole audio system, but you want something better than TV speakers, you get a soundbar.  If you don’t want to deal with setting up speakers and a receiver, you get a soundbar.  That’s been just fine until recently.

Bowers & Wilkins has announced that their 800 series speakers will be getting an update.  It’s been six years since there’s been a new 800 series product, but B&W decided that it’s about time to revisit the line. As the name implies, all seven new speakers in the line feature a diamond dome tweeter.  The tweeters, which are now a quad magnet design, have an increased efficiency and improved dynamic range over previous versions.

Oppo been teasing the new player for around two months now, but the day has come and the veil has been lifted on the brand new BDP-80.  The first thing that will leap out to most people is the price.  It’s considerably cheaper than the BDP-83, and the $289 price tag puts the BDP-80 right in line with some of the more expensive players from mass market manufacturers.

I’ve gotten hundreds of press releases about iPhone apps since the App Store opened.  They range from useful – like those that let you repurpose your iPhone as a controller – to the ludicrous.  The Sim2Calc falls in the former of those two categories. If you’re planning to install a projector, or if you’ve done so in the past, you know just how much of a pain it can be to figure out all the details.  Sim2Calc takes care of all that for you.
