With the introduction of more affordable large screen televisions, projector sales took a downturn.  In fact, they've been down consistently since 2006, when they hit their peak.   In the first quarter of 2010, projectors brought in 72 million dollars, which is 10 million more than the first quarter numbers from 2009.  It's still a far reach from sales in 2006, but it's definitely an upward trend.

Manufacturer exclusives on Blu-rays are a bummer.  If you want 'Monsters vs. Aliens' for example, you've got to pick up a Samsung set and Blu-ray player to go with it.  But so far, it hasn't been that big of a deal.  Panasonic's changing that up this fall.

Another impressive technological advancement has come and gone, and before we even got to see it. CRT displays lasted unchallenged for what seems like forever.  You can still find them in homes, workplaces and new in stores.  But when the HD revolution finally hit, things got crazy.  A huge amount of new technologies entered the fray.

LG's modus operandi in the last few months has been to show us gear that we want, but can't have.  First it was a slick OLED only available overseas, then flexible e-paper that might never hit the market.  The latest reveal from LG is one of those things that we can all agree on.  This needs to be in living rooms now.

There's something that's just a bit creepy about a speaker that's referred to by female pronouns.  When the folks at Wilson Audio talk about the Sophia Series 3, they don't say "it," they say "she."   The latest upgrade to the Sophia brings a completely new architecture into the mix.  There's a new look, thicker panels, a new bracing strategy and an all new material for the mid/tweeter baffle.

There's a meeting happening this week between the heads of Sony and Samsung, two of the largest HDTV suppliers around today.  They'll be there to talk about 3D standards, and hopefully work out a standard for 3D glasses.  But there's another reason for the meet, and one that concerns Sony a lot more than getting 3D glasses right.
