magazine Rolling Stone has named the top 500 songs of all-time in its
latest issue, with Bob Dylan’s “Like a Rolling Stone” topping the list.
The list was tallied with votes from 172 critics and musicians –
including stars such as Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys, Joni Mitchell
and younger voters such as Jeff Tweedy of Wilco.
The Rolling Stones’ “(I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction” is number two, followed by John Lennon’s peace song “Imagine,” Marvin Gaye’s political anthem “What’s Going On” and Aretha Franklin’s classic song “Respect.” The list has a greater number of songs from the 1950s, 60s and 70s, as voters were told to focus on the “Rock and Roll Era.” Yet, newer songs snuck into the list, such as Nirvana’s “Smells Like Teen Spirit” as Number 9.
