Vidikron’s Future Uncertain

Once the leader in high end video components, Vidikron USA, now owned by Markland Technologies, is causing speculation about their viability in the future. Vidikron and Larry Shatsoff, President of Markland had no comment other than to site SEC rules regarding the issue. Top Vidikron dealers tell AudioRevolution.com they haven’t heard from the company since CES in January of this year. Greg Rizzo, Vidikron’s Director of U.S. Sales, resigned last week. He is the latest Vidikron executive to leave. Vidikron also just ended its relationship with their PR firm.

Perhaps also significant, HI-REZ Projections, Inc. was officially appointed to handle all warranty and non-warranty service for "past and future Vidikron of America, Inc. home theater products," including all of the company’s CRT and LCD Projectors, Video Scalers, and related equipment. HI-REZ Projections, located in Ashland Massachusetts, operates one of the largest video projector service centers, repairing not only CRT and single lens home theater and commercial projectors from Vidikron but from Runco, Electrohome and others. All HI-REZ technicians are Imaging Science Foundation (ISF) certified, ensuring customers the highest level of calibration and repair expertise possible.

Vidikron’s product line has remained mainly focused on CRT technology despite the dwindling amount of actual 9 inch CRT tubes available coupled with shrinking demand for large scale CRT systems priced at $50,000 and higher. Companies that have eaten much of Vidikron’s market share include SIM2 Seleco, Runco, SharpVision, Madrigal Imaging and JVC – all of which sell some form of either DLP or D-ILA digital projector.
