Marc Cuban evidently has had an effect on the execs at NBC. Broadcasting and Cable Magazine is reporting that NBC has agreed to air more of its prime time shows in HDTV.
ABC and CBS are ahead of the game in terms of prime time HDTV content although NBC does broadcast The Tonight Show in HDTV and did broadcast the winter Olympics from Salt Lake City in HD with help from Cuban’s HDNet. An exact list of prime time shows was not released but one would expect more than the one show in HDTV (Crossing Jordan) in coming seasons. NBC’s move towards primetime HDTV is very good news to the content starved early HDTV adopters who struggle to find good content to grace their new TV screens. Critics are hopeful that with more content being broadcast in HDTV by NBC that some of the audio and video flaws will be worked out for their terrestrial HDTV feeds much like the ones that plagued their Olympics coverage on NBC (not on HDNet). The simple fact is – with more compelling content there will be more viewers and with more viewers there are more reasons to develop more programming in HDTV.
