SACD had a big CES with announcements from Sony Music, Universal Music Group and EMI. As reported in AudioRevolution.com weeks ago, EMI UK will be releasing Pink Floyd’s legendary Dark Side of the Moon remixed for 5.1 surround on SACD this spring. It will be marketed under the EMI/Capitol label in the US. EMI has a few other SACD titles being released in the U.S. but is also releasing DVD-Audio titles in the states.

Universal Music Group will have a regular slate of SACD releases in 2003. In the coming months major artists are releasing their newest albums on the SACD format. This includes: Peter Gabriel -Up; The Roots - Phrenology; The Wallflowers - Red Letter Days; and Three Doors Down - Away From The Sun. Peter Gabriel is releasing his entire catalog on SACD in stereo (1, 2, 3, Security, Plays Live, Birdy [OST], Passion: The Last Temptation of Christ [OST], So and Us). Universal Music Group has already released SACD titles from other artists such as Andreas Bocelli – Toscana; Beck – Sea Change; Bon Jovi – Bounce ; Diana Krall – Look of Love; and Natalie Cole – Ask a Woman Who Knows, among others.

Other titles that are currently available on SACD include:
• Fischer / Budapest Festival Orchestra - Dvorak
• Karajan / Berlin Philharmonic - Beethoven 9th
• E.T. The 20th Anniversary Soundtrack
• A Beautiful Mind Soundtrack
• Muddy Waters - Folksinger
• Stan Getz & Joao Gilberto - Getz & Gilberto
• Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong - Ella and Louis
• Ryan Adams - Gold
• Al Jarreau - All I Got
• Quincy Jones - Ultimate Collection
• John Coltrane - A Love Supreme
• Anne-Sophie Mutter - Beethoven: The Complete Sonatas
• Cecelia Bartoli – Italian Arias
• Steve Earle - Guitar Town

Sony Music rounded out a prolific bunch of announcements for the SACD format with news of a number of classic Bob Dylan records on SACD. The 15 Dylan albums will be hybrid discs and when possible, will be remixed into surround. Other non-multitrack records will remain as a stereo mix. All will be backwards compatible to CD players thanks to the hybrid technology on SACD.
