A
litigation settlement that would enable consumers who bought musical
products (CD, cassette and vinyl) between January 1, 1995 and December
22, 2000, to receive between $5 and $20 compensation is currently in
the process of going to court in the United States District Court for
the District of Maine.
The Plaintiff claims that record companies conspired to artificially raise the price of musical products during this time, costing the consumer and putting more money in the pockets of record producers and music executives. A Fairness Hearing will be held on May 22, 2003 at 10 a.m. in Portland, Maine to determine whether or not the settlement should be approved, claims dismissed, application of counsel fees and reimbursement of costs should be approved and the plan of distribution for the Settlement Fund. If you bought one or more musical products between January 1, 1995 and December 22, 2000, you may file a claim and receive up to and not beyond $20. No receipt is necessary when filing a claim. If the settlement results in payments of less then $5 per person, then the proceeds will go to charity. |
