How do I start this review? Ah, I know: this album sucks! It’s hard to
imagine an album being more of a waste of time than this one. I wish I
had the time back I used to listen to this album. Seems like all of the
Brides of Destruction wish they were still 15 years old again and full
of piss and vinegar. While the musicianship on this album isn’t all
that bad, the vibe is just totally ridiculous.
“Shut the F**k Up” is the first song and so maybe you get the drift. I
know, this album does have a purpose … look at all the drugs these guys
did in the ‘80s, do you really want to end up like this? It’s pretty
much a total waste of time listening to this drivel … I mean how many
swear words do songs need now? Is this the current state of heavy
metal? God, I hope not, because if it is, then I fear for its survival.
The Brides of Destruction is the current home for Nikki Sixx (Motley
Crue), Tracii Guns (LA Guns), Scot Coogan (All 4 One) and London
LeGrand. I’m trying to come up with something positive to say about
this DVD-A and I really can’t, at least musically. Wait, here’s a
positive: I like the cartoon on the cover of the album. Even as I’m
writing this review, I feel like I’m wasting precious time. Lyrically
weak and musically boring are the two terms that keep coming to mind.
While the mix itself wasn’t horrible, the music and lyrics were so bad
that I had to fight myself and sit there to listen to it. Take all the
worst elements of ‘80s hair rock, put them together and this is what
you end up with.
Maybe I’m just too old now and don’t get how guys with millions of
dollars (at least, they had it at one time) could be so bitter or mad.
I know it’s all about commerce now and not about the art and that’s the
problem here. Too much of the record industry only cares about album
sales and not about the product they’re releasing. 15-year-old boys
want to buy records that will piss off their parents, so let’s give
them this! I mean, Motley Crue was a pretty successful band and so was
LA Guns, so why not write something that was maybe just a little bit
above the IQ of a gnat? Haven’t they grown at all as musicians or as
artists? How can you do something this long (and do it quite
successfully, I might add) and not grow? I don’t get it. I don’t mind
the anger; I just don’t like the lack of creativity. From my point of
view, this album was one of the worst records I’ve heard in quite
awhile.
If you really want to listen to some good metal, then go pull out your
old Metallica, Tool or Black Sabbath CDs. Just don’t listen to this.
Peace!
