AC/DC knows one song and three chords. It’s a formula that has worked for them and has lead to multi-platinum album sales, garnering them a devoted following undreamed-of by most bands. All of this, with one song and three chords.

Angus Young, still donning his schoolboy uniform, and his crew of hellraisers are back on AC/DC’s new album ‘Stiff Upper Lip.’ AC/DC brings absolutely nothing new to the table, musically or lyrically. This album could have been easily sandwiched between ‘Back In Black’ and ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’ and not seemed out of place. AC/DC knows the formula and sticks to the plan. They are here to make the rock that rolls the world, critics and conservatives be damned.

AC/DC tries to leap into the 21st century by including a feature on the disc that allows you to link to AC/DC’s website if you load the CD into a computer that has Internet access. Unfortunately, the copy of the CD that I used for this review here at AudioRevolution.com would not work, taking me only to a broken link. This wasn’t a promo copy of the CD; this was an actual store-bought disc and it does not work. Just for fun, I tried it on a variety of other computer systems - still no luck. Like the music on this CD, the technology (or lack thereof) is archaic.

What about the music? I am not here to tell you that AC/DC does not have talent. They are a tight rock band who know what they’re doing and they never stray from the plan. The concept isn’t to stop world hunger or save the rain forests with their music. They just came to rock and they get the job done here in typical AC/DC fashion. Angus’ signature Gibson SG guitar through a Marshall stack is here and as loud as ever. So are drummer Phil Rudd’s big beats and no-fills drum parts. Singer Brian Johnson growls and howls with that unmistakable raspy voice that no one would ever mistake for anything else. I can tell you that if you are currently a fan of the band, you are most likely going to enjoy ‘Stiff Upper Lip.’ On the flip side, if you are not currently into AC/DC, there just isn’t anything new here that’s going to turn you into an overnight fan.
