In recent years there has been a trend toward the dual soundtrack; one disc representing all the available, 'hip' artists looking to donate a hit single and the second (separately sold, of course) simply the actual score of the film. This is what is remarkable about the soundtrack from 'Out Of Sight,' it is both of these discs rolled into one. Of the fifteen tracks, only six are actual songs--the rest are instrumentals assumedly used in the film. I say 'assumedly' because although Jennifer Lopez has a body that could make any red-blooded American male sit through 'Howard The Duck' for a third time, I haven't actually seen 'Out Of Sight.'
What I have done, however, is listen to "It's Your Thing" by the Isley Brothers, "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" by Dean Martin, and "Fight The Power" also by the Isleys many times before they found their way here. Yes, for all the points this soundtrack earns by cutting out the unnecessary, it gives them right back by to trotting out the staples in an attempt to suck you in.In the end, I have a feeling this album turns out lot like the film; perhaps interesting the first time through, but nothing you'd ever want to relive.
