Becoming X
Virgin Records Performance Quality = 8.5 Sound Quality = 7.5 I admit it. I bought their Import single based simply on the fact their name is so cool... The Sneaker Pimps. The domestic album is quite good. It is a sophisticated cross between techno, rock and pop. The Sneaker Pimps show influences from Bjork at times while at other times they sound more like The Meat Beat Manifesto. The vocals are sexy and compelling and the grooves are slowly engaging. This is a record that has a lot to digest. You will not be able to realize how cool it is for a few times through. Unlike The Spice Girls this record isn't custom made for radio play but it is an excellent record that to quote the nose-pierced, sales girl at Arons Records in Hollywood who turned me on to The Sneaker Pimps, "The record is flying off the shelves". If you like Bjork, Orbital, Meat Beat Manifesto and the newer Madonna ballads buy this record before Arons runs out. |
