This new release for The Boneshakers is the first since their debut record, ‘Book Of Spells’ in 1997. ‘Shake the Planet’ is a blend of Rock, Blues, and R&B, with a taste of Funk.

The fuel that makes this band work, comes from singer/songwriter/guitarist, Randy Jacobs, and the incredible vocals of Sweet Pea Atkinson.

Sweet Pea has lent his remarkable vocals to the likes of Elton John, Lyle Lovett, Neil Diamond, and many others. Together they bring a chemistry that makes this band special. I recently had the opportunity to see this band live, and they lived up to their billing, delivering the songs off this new release with great energy. The opening song, "Hand Over Fist," possesses a very solid rock/blues rhythm with some very soulful lead guitar. The song, "Don’t Change Horses," has a funky rhythm with splendid vocals from Sweet Pea, and a groove that makes you want to move. From front to back this recording is packed with great tunes.

The recording quality of this disc is adequate; good enough not to annoy me, yet not good enough to excite me either. The stage is defined, but feels compressed and lacks some dynamic authority.

The Boneshakers are an up-n-coming band that are helping fill a void for us blues/rock lovers that just don’t get enough good new music. This recording probably won’t become the best one in your collection, yet it’s likely to find its way to your player quite often. If rock/blues music is your taste, you might want to give this one a shot, it’s the complete package.
