The Spice Girls are a new pop sensation from England that are the most exciting `chick' group since Bananarama! Their first single "Wannabe" is a pure radio hit despite the white girl rap sections. The entire record is very well produced. The songs don't drop off after the hit single. "Say you'll be there" with its 70 retro sample bassline has hit potential along with the Madonna-esque ballad "2 become 1", "Love Thing" and "Who do you think you are".
Soncially, the record is better than average with the tight bass response you expect from a dance record. What you get with the Spice Girls is strong sex appeal from all 5 members and VERY catchy pop hooks all the way through the record. What I dig most about the record is that it is fun. I don't care how many records were sold, the whole "women with angst" vibe in 1996 made me depressed. If you like early Madonna, Bananarama, Ace of Base and the rest then you should buy this record ASAP.
I can't decide which Spice Girl is my favorite. It's either Emma or Geri. A couple of my friends disagree, saying Victoria or Melanie B are the finest. The cover art is an added bonus that allows you to decide for yourself from a host of color photos.
