Adore, Virgin Records
Performance 6 Sound 7.5 If you are a fan of the Smashing Pumpkins you knew this album was coming. You could hear the answer in the wind, especially if you listened to guitarist James Iha's solo album. Ah, yes, the softer, kinder, gentler Pumpkins. That's right, baby that's right, there's no smashing here--now it's more of a consensual thing. Those pumpkins really wanted the plug pulled and finally Billy and his buddies are just easing them on over to the other side. Say what you want about this band, but it wasn't to long ago when they stood on stage and screamed "Despite all your rage, you're still just a rat in a cage." Remember that? We hope so, because there's precious little in 'Adore' to recall it.
