Sleepy's Theme, The Vinyl Room, Bang II Records
| Performance 7.5 | Sound 8 | Just so you know, the title of this album doesn't refer to the latest S&M nightspot; we checked. No, it actually refers to the stacks of wax that have helped Sleepy Brown become one of the most influential behind-the-scenes men you've never heard of. Between creating some of TLC and En Vogue's platinum successes and his other work for the Goodie Mob, Sleepy has earned every right to finally flex his muscle for himself. Better yet, he doesn't disappoint, delivering what is one of the more innovative albums of the year.
At times this album echoes the strains of The Brand New Heavies
while at other times it dips into what R&B strives to be. 'The
Vinyl Room' is more an experience than an album, one of the
ever-increasing rarities which may be put on and listened to from start
to finish. Also, its recording, mixing, and mastering only contribute
to its success, making 'The Vinyl Room' one room we can certainly
recommend you enter with little trepidation.
