Candyass
Reprise Records | Performance 7 | Sound 8 |
Orgy plays nice and loud with scorching guitars, hard hitting and huge sounding drum sounds all underneath dramatic (if not sometimes over-the-top) vocals. Their A&R man did them no harm by choosing to release the cover song "Blue Monday" as the single. Much like how Marilyn Manson broke into popular favor, Orgy uses a familiar melody to introduce to the world their S&M laden, techno-metal sound. Unlike Marylyn Manson, the rest of 'Candyass' is actually pretty good. Cut 11 "Revival" and the lead in track "Social Enemies" are straight up, kick ass. While Orgy doesn’t surpass White Zombie as my favorite Threshold of Pain demo CD, it is not far off. Melodically, their songs are way better than average. After ten or so times through my CD player, I find myself still very interested. I can’t say that about five other CDs I’ve heard this year. If you like it loud and kinky, you’ll like Orgy. |
