| Performance 9 | Sound 8.5 | This record is a guaranteed winner for anyone who is a fan of classical, ambient, techno or pop. The soundtrack from the film The Boxer is composed and performed by Irish pop star Gavin Friday & Maurice Seezer and melds excellent classical themes with traditional Irish motifs in a highly produced, highly stylized techno setting. The single most important element of a great song is a compelling melody. The Soundtrack from The Boxer is full of them. This record takes you on Pink Floyd-esq trips through a special and acoustically decorated sonic experience that is sure to please. This record is capable of creating and changing moods with ease. I recommend listening with only the luminance of a few candles or the glow of your tubes. You will be amazed. The recording and production quality are very good if not excellent. The overall feel of the record is warm, but very resolved in the detail department. The soundtrack from motion picture The Boxer is the single best record I have heard in 1998. Buy it on my strong recommendation. |
