Songs From and American Movie, Vol. Two: Good Time For A Bad Attitude is quite different from its immediate predecessor, Songs From an American Movie, Vol. One: Learning How To Smile. Vol. One was generally upbeat and studio polished, whereas Good Time for a Bad Attitude, reviewed here, is rougher, displaying a good deal of negativity. Good Time for a Bad Attitude features Everclear's punk rock roots and is reminiscent of their So Much for the Afterglow release.

The first two tracks from the album, When it All Goes Wrong Again, and Slide, are solid rockers that may both be familiar to you due to their large amounts of airplay. I thoroughly enjoyed these two songs and most of the tracks on the record. My problem with this album is that I found it to be a bit monotonous. Heard individually or even a few at a time, the tracks are great. I found listening to the whole album in one sitting to be a bit much, due to both the similarity of the tracks to one another and the generally negative tone that runs through the album.

The sound quality of the album also leaves a bit to be desired. After seeing the band perform live, it is obvious to me that something was lost in the recording process. Live, the band and their music jump out at you. That level of engagement just isn’t there on the album recordings.

This album has a few strong tracks and will satisfy those looking for a dose of Everclear's rock roots music. If you listen to albums all the way through, it is likely that this one will probably leave you a bit bored and depressed by the end. In short, recommended, but only in moderate doses. However, this album heard in moderate doses, like the Everclear of old, truly rocks.
