It doesn't get much better than Curtis Mayfield at his best, and that's what this album is. Rhino has remastered one of Soul's most classic albums. Featuring timeless cuts like "Beautiful Brother Of Mine," "Keep On Keeping On," and "Get Down," this album is outstanding from start to finish. Even better is that four bonus tracks are included, the single versions of "Get Down," "Beautiful Brother Of Mine," and "We Got To Have Peace" as well as the demo version of "Underground." This is an album without a weak point that has been made even better through remastering.
Unfortunately, it's only possible to do so much with a remaster. Recording equipment has come a long way since 1971 and as good a job as was done here, it shows. In a perfect world the soundstage would be deeper and the instrumentation more defined, but, thankfully, the caliber of music here makes up for anything the recording might be missing. As the copious liner notes point out, this is "quintessential Curtis," we agree, suggesting you purchase this with no delay.
