| Performance 9 | Sound 9 | Jazz piano virtuoso Oscar Peterson. Jazz piano virtuoso and band leader Count Basie. Can there really be too much of a good thing? In this case, this is probably entirely subjective. What makes the 1978 recording of 'The Time Keepers' such a classic is not because it was their only such meeting on wax (in fact, this was the fourth album they did together) but rather in that this collaboration showcases these two masters not only sharing the stage, but literally sharing time. From beginning to end this album is one more text book they never let you read in music school. Needless to say this disc's remastering is outstanding, it actually almost measures up to the music it contains. |
