Good Old Broadway
JVC XRCD | Performance 8.5 | Sound 8.5 | What is there to say about this album that you can't glean from its cover. It's The Hawk. Remastered. Do you really need any more impetus to purchase? It features Hawkins on tenor sax as always, Tommy Flanagan on piano, Major Holly, Jr. on bass, and Eddie Locke on drums. It also features a softly moving 'A Fellow Needs A Girl' and a version of 'Smoke Gets In Your Eyes' that is so lonely you want to buy it a drink. Sure, this album is still less than forty minutes, but the simple fact that you can finally have The Hawk and his horn envelope you truly makes the candle that burns twice as bright twice as enjoyable. |
