After a sudden, unexplained delay in the release of three HD DVD titles by Paramount, the movie studio has announced a brand new lineup. Back in May, Paramount delayed the release of Four Brothers, U2: Rattle & Hum, and Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, giving no new release date or reason for the indefinite postponement.

Paramount has now officially announced the release of nine HD DVD titles for the next three weeks. The first three titles, Lara Croft: Tomb Raider, Sahara, and Sleepy Hollow are set for release tomorrow, July 25, 2006. The next wave will be one week later on August 1, 2006 and will include Four Brothers, The Manchurian Candidate, and We Were Soldiers. Finally, the third wave set for August 8, 2006 will include Aeon Flux, The Italian Job, and U2: Rattle & Hum.

No reason was given for the initial delay in the release titles. Rumor has it that Paramount wanted to coincide the release of their HD DVD titles with their support of Blu-ray titles. While Paramount has announced their support for Blu-ray, they have yet to announce any Blu-ray titles for release.

Buena Vista (Disney, Dimension, Miramax, Touchstone) is jumping onboard with Blu-ray, announcing their first titles. The titles for release include, Dinosaur, Haunted Mansion, Glory Road, Eight Below, Jay & Silent Bob Strike, The Great Raid, Gone In 60 Seconds, The Brothers Grimm, and Dark Water. However, the discs are not scheduled for release until starting in September and continuing through October.

Also noteworthy is the announcement by Warner Home Video that they will be supporting Blu-ray. Their first titles will be released starting August 1, 2006. Unfortunately though, all the titles currently set for release have already been released on the HD DVD format. The August 1, 2006 titles include Training Day, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Good Night and Good Luck, and Rumor Has It. Also scheduled for release this fall on the Blu-ray format are Swordfish, 16 Blocks, Million Dollar Baby, Firewall, and The Perfect Storm.
