It’s an exciting time for TVs. After a few years of relative stability, several new technologies are fighting for dominance. UHDTV sets are hitting the market, as are OLED and a few different takes on each.  LG’s latest is unique in that it uses technology traditionally only seen in projectors. The Korean company will be employing lasers.

LG isn’t the first to use lasers for its sets, former TV maker Mitsubishi employed them for its high end DLPs. Like Mitsubishi’s sets, the LG HECTO is a DLP TV which utilizes blue lasers for illumination. On first glance, you might not even notice that it’s a DLP.  At six inches, it’s deeper than most current HD sets, but not as deep as DLPs of old. The launch of the HECTO set is expected in April and the price sits at $8,999.
