There’s no question that we want 4K content, but there’s quite a bit of debate about just how we’re going to get it.  Some opt for the disc-based methods that have served us thusfar while others prefer to go with streaming. Streaming seems the most consumer friendly method since there’s no need to upgrade your whole collection, but internet connection speeds have to be up to the task.

Telefonica provides broadband service in Europe, Latin America and in the good ol’ US and they’ve got a potential solution.  At the Mobile World Congress they showed off 4K streaming over a fiber optic link with a transfer speed of 100Mbps.  That’s far above the standard in the US, but a few providers are getting there. This isn’t the optimal solution yet, but it’s a step on the road to one.
