There are two big television breakthroughs being brought to the mainstream market this year – OLED and Ultra High Definition. The former has huge advantages in color and black levels while the latter kicks the resolution up significantly.  Early adopters have had a bit of a quandary up until now, since the two were mutually exclusive.  Sony is planning to change that.

At CES today, Sony showed off a brand new UHDTV that utilizes OLED technology.  The company said that it had to overcome a series of technological hurdles to make it happen, but they were overcome, as evidenced by the existence of the set. The company hasn't said anything about when we'll see something like this in full production or how much it might cost, but we're looking forward to finding out.
