The NPD Group – as they are wont to do – has put together a survey of Smart TV owners and come to an interesting conclusion.  Most Smart TV owners don't use their Smart TVs.  In fact, according to their data, only half of these sets are connected to the internet.  The rest are used in the exact same way they would be without the extra features.

Out of the 50 percent that actually have their TVs online, 60 percent stream video.  Only 10 percent of those use the TV for other tasks like gaming, social media and video calling. That leaves 30 percent that have their sets connected and don't do anything with them.  The "why?" remains unanswered by the survey, but you can bet that set-top boxes, DVRs, HTPCs and game consoles have a lot to do with it.
