When it launched, the Boxee Box did just about everything a streaming player could be expected to do and then some, so when Boxee revealed that Boxee TV will only launch with five apps, we were a bit surprised. Even more surprising though, is the unique DVR functionality that saves your content online rather than locally. Boxee TV takes your recorded over-the-air and basic cable shows, records them, and lets you watch them from a PC, smartphone or tablet. You can save as many shows as you want, but you'll need to shell out $15 a month in addition to the $99 for the Boxee TV itself. This may end up being a very worthwhile investment for those that want their content available to them on the go. The Boxee TV DVR service launches first in New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Atlanta, Philadelphia and Washington DC with more cities coming next year. |
