We've seen a lot of innovation over the past few years - 4K resolution, 3D television, streaming video and OLED panels for starters. Of course, just because we're moving on to bigger and better doesn't mean there's not room to refine what we've already got. Sharp is doing just that with its new take on the LCD panel. Sharp calls the new creation a Moth Eye panel, since irregularities on the surface are similar to the eyes of a moth. While irregularities may sound like a negative thing, it's this very feature that reduces glare on the panels while at the same time keeping contrast nice and high. Moth Eye panels are in production now for use in 60, 70 and 80 inch Sharp TVs, which means we'll start seeing them show up sometime next year. (photo credit: Engadget) |
