Sony was the first to jump into the OLED market, but they've since fallen behind. Panasonic, on the other hand, never really ventured into working on the new tech. Korean manufacturers LG and Samsung are far in the lead with this tech, which has prompted Sony and Panasonic to work together to get caught up. The companies will be sharing technologies and developing a more cost efficient way of creating OLED sets. The plan is to have new OLED TVs being mass produced by 2013. Don't mistake this alliance for a total partnership though – Sony and Panasonic will still be going head-to-head when they release their sets. |
