Panasonic has announced that they'll be teaming up with Nuance to bring Dragon TV voice control to their sets. If you've heard of or used Dragon Naturally Speaking you know just how far voice recognition has come.  What was once a chore is now a slick way to get things done.  It's not perfect, but it's far better than it used to be.  The addition of that voice recognition as a way to control televisions is another step forward.

"TVs have become the epicenter of the digital living room, with what seems to be unlimited entertainment and media content," says Hiroyuki Iwaki, manager of TV product planning for Panasonic.  "But that content is only as powerful as the experience and the ability for consumers to access it." The new application will allow you to search for programs by simply saying simple phrases like "Find movies with Gary Oldman" or "When is Archer on?" If this software works well, it could be the start of a big change in the way we control our TVs.  If not, it'll be another gimmick along the way.  We'll have to wait and see.
