When you're browsing Netflix for great films and newer titles, you may have noticed a trend.  Many of these titles come courtesy of Starz.  The 29th marks the last day of the contract between Starz and Netflix, which means over 800 movies are leaving the streaming service. Not all of those flicks are great of course, but Netflix is losing titles like 'Young Frankenstein,' 'Toy Story 3,' and the 'Spartacus' TV series.  It also marks the loss of 'The Pixar Story,' which is a very cool documentary on how the company got started and clear up any confusion about why Steve Jobs was honored at the Oscars - dude took a big risk on Pixar and it paid off.

This is a big blow for Netflix, but the company has plenty in the works.  Netflix has some very strong original programming on the way including the return of 'Arrested Development' and has also signed a deal with The Weinstein Company for exclusive rights to stream 2012 Oscar nominees and winners like 'The Artist' and 'Undefeated.'  They won't be found on HBO or Showtime - just Netflix.

Ron Elzinga  - NETFLIX or TVFLIX?   |2012-02-28 14:52:33
So are we seeing the end of movies altogether or just NETFLIX movies being
telecast? I dont want to sign up for something that isnt there, and really dont
want to pay for TV reruns, no matter what the cost.

I literally came on line
to sign up and see a "NETFLIX Losing Movies" story...why would I want
NETFLIX now?

I love Starz movies and that is sad that Netflix is losing them. I imagine that
they are going to have many upset customers. When Netflix started changing all
their prices and splitting services is when I made the change. I went with the
Blockbuster@home service with DISH and I love it. A co-worker at DISH
convinced me to make the change. I love their streaming service and I absolutely
love that I can get new releases on DVD 28 days before Netflix. Now that Netflix
lost Starz, I am more than happy that I made the switch.
