The folks over at Corning made a huge mark on the industry last year with the introduction of Gorilla Glass, an ultra tough glass designed for use in smartphones, laptops and other displays including Sony's 2011 TV line. Their newest creation is made, not for toughness, but for the best picture possible. It's also capable of handing high-heat situation, which according to Corning VP Andrew Filson, "enables tighter design rules in advanced backplanes for higher resolution and faster response time."  That means better visuals all around.

Though the glass has just been announced, it's already in production and ready to be put into consumer products. Again Corning is targeting the smaller portable device market, but we'll be interested to see if this glass makes it into OLED or LCD displays for next year.
