There's something wrong with several of Sony's 40 inch Bravia televisions, and it's not something small either.  Apparently, some of them have been overheating and one has even caught fire as a result of a defect.  Sony says that around 400,000 TVs are affected by the issue.  They've revealed that is has something to do with the backlighting, but haven't specified as to what the problem part is.  The company says though, that there have been no reports of damage to property - well, the TVs obviously, but no other property - and no injuries have occurred.

The company isn't issuing a formal recall, but they'll check out your TV for you and fix it if need be.  If you're using one the sets in the list below, you'll want to either visit UpdadeMyTV or call Sony up at (888) 868-7389.

Models Affected:
  • KDL-40V3000
  • KDL-40VL130
  • KDL-40W3000
  • KDL-40WL135
