Sure, Hitachi isn't exactly a TV brand that AV Rev readers are likely to have in the house - it's not on the same level as a Panasonic, Samsung or Sony - but when any brand is considering leaving the business it's well worth a mention. Hitachi started in TV production back in 1956 and now, 55 years later, they're finding things a bit difficult. Competing with Korean manufacturers who have lower costs is problematic and Hitachi has been considering outsourcing production for some time. The folks at Hitachi say that if they do put an end to their TV business or simply outsource it to another country they'll be keeping the 250 or so people at the current Hitachi TV plant employed by shifting production to other products. |
