After Netflix announced a price change that managed to turn them from heroes to villains overnight, it's time for their competitors to step up and try and take advantage of the glut of people cancelling their subscriptions. Blockbuster's offering is a different take on things that reflects their in-store rental policy. Instead of signing up for a subscription, you can rent discs individually at a price of $4.99. Simply pick your disc and it'll be on the way to your door for a 7-day rental period.
One very interesting thing about Blockbuster's service is that DVDs and Blu-rays cost the same amount to rent. Whether you want 'Toy Story 3' on Blu-ray or DVD, you'll still be paying $4.99. The new addition to Blockbuster's online offerings is a decent idea, but it's still far too early to tell if it's something that will pay off or not. |
