You can throw out all the fancy numbers you want, you can talk about halved resolutions and flicker and all the other things that make up a picture, but what matters in the end is how good something looks to the average viewer.  According to a new study organized by LG, passive sets are preferred by 80 percent of people. The study, which was carried out by research firm Morpace, matched up LG's 47LW5600 against a Sony KDL-46EX723 and a Samsung UN46D6420 and asked users to watch identical content on each set and select the one that they prefer over the others.

Over 75 percent of the users went with LG's passive 3D set in the categories of immersion, 3D effect, overall picture quality and - not surprisingly - 3D glasses. "We developed LG Cinema 3D to solve the problems consumers were experiencing with active 3D and to provide the best 3D experience in the home," says LG CEO Wayne Park.  "With its outstanding picture quality, affordability, and easy-to-use and share glasses, it's no surprise that LG Cinema 3D technology is preferred by four out of five of consumers over Sony and Samsung's active 3D."
