The folks at NHK - known to the English speaking world as Japan Broadcasting Corporation - have been working since 1995 on an exciting new broadcasting standard known as Super Hi-Vision. Super Hi-Vision boasts a resolution 16 times that of 1080p, which is significantly more that even the most up to date movie theater. It provides a nearly 33 megapixel picture for ridiculously lifelike images. The biggest problem with Super Hi-Vision is that until now, no one has made a television capable of supporting it. Sharp is set to change all that next week when they show off their new 85 inch Super Hi-Vision display to the public. Sharp and NHK say that we can expect to see Super Hi-Vision rolling out around 2020, so you'll still probably end up with another 1080p set or two between now and then. Still - we're willing to bet we'll see some early high-end prototypes within the next few years.
