The suit that has been going on between TiVo and Dish Network has finally been settled, to the tune of a half billion dollars. TiVo has agreed to settle out of court, and will be receiving $300 million from Dish, along with another $200 million to be paid over the next five years.  It's a big blow for Dish, but it does mean they won't have to replace any of their existing DVRs.

It's not all bad news for Dish though.  Part of the settlement grants Dish Network a license to the Time Warp patent that started all this trouble in the first place.  It also presents Dish with a few more licenses for TiVo technologies.

Despite the ongoing suit, there are no hard feelings between the companies.  "We have tremendous respect for TiVo's management," says Dish CEO Charlie Ergen, "and we have always said that regardless of the outcome of the case, there were many ways that we could work together with TiVo."
