Judging by the numbers presented by both IHS Screen Digest and FutureSource, Blu-ray hardware and software are going to be selling incredibly well this year. According to FutureSource, there will be nearly 50 million pieces of hardware capable of playing Blu-ray discs in households across America by the end of the year.  That includes standalone Blu-ray players, game consoles, and PCs with Blu-ray drives.

With all that hardware out there, it only makes sense that the amount of software sold would increase as well.  IHS Screen Digest says that we've already seen a 26.5 percent increase in Blu-ray disc sales in the first quarter of 2011 when compared to the first quarter of 2010. 3D Blu-rays are on the way up too.  IHS has predicted a 533 percent increase in 3D spending for the US, UK, Germany and France.  FutureSource sees things similarly, and expects 60 percent of US homes to own 3D televisions by the year 2015.
